In the by-election for PP-139 in Sheikhupura, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Rana Tahir Iqbal defeated Ijaz Hussain Bhatti, who was supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), according to unofficial results compiled on Thursday night.
The PML-N-backed MPA Rana Afzal Hussain, who had won the seat in a prior by-election when Rana Tanveer Hussain resigned it, passed away, leaving the seat empty.
According to the unofficial results, Ijaz Hussain received 20,133 votes, while Rana Tahir received 44,537. The provincial constituency had 124 voting places in total.
The PML-N workers began celebrating at Rana Tahir’s home after the victory.
MPA A devastating heart attack claimed Rana Afzal’s life in August 2024. He was the Federal Minister of Industries and Production’s older brother.
