KARACHI: The leader of the religio-political party, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, declared on Tuesday night that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) had reached an agreement on the text of the 26th constitutional amendment.
“Our two parties have agreed on a draft [of the constitutional package] after much deliberation,” Fazl declared at a joint press conference in Karachi with PPP president Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
Among other measures, the ‘contentious’ constitutional package seeks to establish a federal constitutional court and set a three-year term limit for the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
The JUI-F president had alluded to reaching an agreement with the ruling PML-N and PPP the day before at the news conference.
