A major ally of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has declared a protest movement against the federal government’s proposed six canals project, calling it “illegal.”
Nisar Khuhro, the president of the PPP Sindh, announced at a news conference in Karachi on Friday that the party would stage protest rallies against the contentious project on March 25 (Tuesday) in all district headquarters.
“The project is illegal and should not be built… we will hold rallies and protest in every street against it,” added the politician.
The federal government’s primary ally, the PPP, and other Sindh nationalist parties opposed its proposal to build six canals on the Indus River to irrigate the Cholistan desert.
