Shazia Marri, the information secretary for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), claimed on Tuesday that the PML-N administration in the Center has not gained the trust of its main ally about the federal budget for 2024–2025.
Marri voiced the PPP’s concerns on the finalized budgetary proposals for the FY25 made by the ruling Nawaz-led party during a press conference in Islamabad today.
The comment was made by the main political ally of the ruling PML-N in the coalition government following the presentation of the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2023–24 by Finance Minister Muhammad today. The document is a pre-budget document that includes information on macroeconomic indicators for the previous fiscal year.
According to the Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Bilawal chaired a significant meeting of the PPP’s parliamentary party.
According to Marri, the party’s MPs expressed their misgivings to the upper leadership.
“We are having problems because of the federal government’s stance against the PPP,” Marri stated, cautioning that her party would find itself in a tight spot if the next budget did not provide relief for farmers.
“We hoped Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would know our stance,” Marri stated. She continued by saying that such demands, which were “agreed with the PPP,” were not met by the federal administration.
She said that tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:30, the PPP legislators will reconvene for another crucial meeting to talk about the federal budget. She restated, in response to a query, that the party led by Bilawal will not be joining the federal cabinet of the PML-N administration.
