ISLAMABAD: On the third anniversary of his passing on Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to the legendary Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for his lifetime fight for the rights of the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
On September 1, 2021, the Kashmiri leader, whose well-known statement, “We are Kashmiris and Pakistan is our country,” inspired millions, passed away at his Srinagar home following a protracted house imprisonment.
The president stated in his statement that Geelani was a symbol of resistance and optimism who encouraged many Kashmiris to continue fighting for their right to self-determination.
“We will always carry his unwavering efforts and sacrifices for the righteous cause of the Kashmiri people in our hearts and minds,” he said.
