ISLAMABAD: In honor of Eid ul Fitr and Pakistan Day, which is celebrated on March 23 every year, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the convicts’ remission on Friday.
The president used his authority under Article 45 of the Constitution to issue a 180-day reprieve for both instances.
However, inmates convicted of murder, espionage, or anti-state acts would not be eligible for the remission.
In addition, inmates convicted of financial crimes, terrorism, rape, theft, robbery, and kidnapping would not be eligible for the remission.
Male inmates over 65 and female inmates over 60 who have served one-third of their sentence would be eligible for the sentence reduction.
