ISLAMABAD: After weeks of conflict with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), President Asif Ali Zardari signed the madrassa registration bill into law on Sunday.
Seminaries will be registered in accordance with the Societies Act, according to a gazette notice published by the National Assembly Secretariat.
Seminaries that are currently operating but have not yet registered must finish the process within six months of the Societies Registration (Amendment) Act, 2024 going into effect, per the gazette notice.
It further stipulates that any madrassa founded after the Act’s effective date shall register in accordance with the Act within a year of its founding.
The notification stated, “A [Deeni Madrassa] with multiple campuses will only require a single registration.”
