This week, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, is traveling to St. Helena and South Africa.
Since the Princess Royal’s trip there in 2002, King Charles’ younger brother is the first member of the royal family to visit St Helena, one of the most isolated islands in the world.
The Duke began his tour of South Africa by touring Pretoria Garden, an urban area with a high level of biodiversity and home to more than 220 species of birds.
As part of the South African President’s State Visit to the United Kingdom last year, he went on a tour of Kew Gardens alongside President Ramaphosa.
The Prince learned more about Kew’s partnership with the South African National Biodiversity Institute while he was in Pretoria.
The Duke later went to a President’s Award Reception to honor the recipients of the DofE Gold Award, which annually provides support to 3,000 young South Africans.
