After completing her studies, Princess Aiko of the Japanese Royal Family plans to join the Red Cross.
The Japanese Red Cross’ official website reports that the employer wants her “to thoroughly make preparations so that the princess can work at ease,” as per the BBC article.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Red Cross, their mission is to provide funds, in-kind assistance, trained delegates, and Emergency Response Units to mitigate natural disasters (such as earthquakes, floods, typhoons, and volcano eruptions), human-generated disasters (such as conflicts and displacement), and epidemics.
For those who don’t know, the king is studying in Japanese language and literature at Gakushuin University in Tokyo.
The 22-year-old princess is the sole child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan.
She chose to wed a commoner, Kei Komuro, and resigned as an official member of the Royal Family.
Not to add, the Chrysanthemum Throne in Japan can only be inherited by male heirs.
