In what is thought to be the most recent in a string of assaults on pro-Kremlin leaders in occupied territory, the former head of an infamous prison in Russian-controlled Ukraine was reportedly killed in a car explosion in Donetsk.
According to one Ukrainian media outlet, Sergei Yevsyukov, 49, was killed in a blast caused by an explosive device that was placed beneath his automobile. The bomb was comparable to roughly 100g of TNT.
In July 2022, Yevsyukov was in charge of the Olenivka Prison when a missile strike killed scores of Ukrainian POWs.
Ukraine claimed Russia attacked the prison to destroy evidence of torture and other war crimes inside, while Russia blamed Ukraine for the attack.
