President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Justice Yahya Afridi to the coveted position of chief justice of Pakistan on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to a statement released by the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday morning, judge Yahya Afridi, Pakistan’s 30th chief judge, has been appointed for a fixed term of three years, starting on October 26.
The statement added that Justice Afridi will take the oath of office on October 26 and that the appointment was made in accordance with Articles 175A(3), 177, and 179 of the Constitution.
A synopsis of Justice Afridi
On January 23, 1965, Justice Afridi was born in Dera Ismail Khan. He is a member of the Kohat Frontier Region’s Adam Khel section of the Afridi tribe.
