Senior midwife Donna Ockenden said the Swansea Bay University Health Board’s independent investigation of Singleton Hospital’s shortcomings is “not fit for purpose” and ought to be “closed” right away.
It follows several internal and external studies that heavily criticized the hospital’s maternity section.
The Welsh government placed the facility under heightened supervision in December 2023 in response to family concerns. Families claim they are still being disregarded despite the health board commissioning an independent review the same month.
Six families that the trust has looked after have spoken with News, and each has expressed concerns about their care and the people in charge of assessing it.Sian Channon, the mother of 2019-born Gethin, who was born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, stated, “Families are the victims.”
She claimed that even after five years, she is still searching for answers and that her family’s desire to be included in the independent assessment was turned down.
“The fundamental focus of the topics under discussion is families. They are affected by the consequences. Families ought to be actively involved in the writing process, she argued.
