Prosecutors in New York have stated that they are prepared to postpone sentencing until after President-elect Donald Trump has served out his next term in office, but they have pledged to fight his attempt to have his criminal conviction overturned.
Following Trump’s guilty judgment, prosecutors asked the judge presiding over his sentencing to take into account alternatives to dismissal, such as delaying until the president-elect is expected to vacate the White House in 2029.
Justice Juan Merchan was asked by the Manhattan district attorney’s office to give both parties until December 9 to review the case and submit additional submissions.
Although November 26 is Trump’s scheduled sentencing date, it may be postponed.
