The deadline for registering all unregistered VPNs expired on Saturday at midnight (November 30), according to The News, thus the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has chosen not to shut VPNs.
The administration has made the decision to extend the time for VPN registration. However, the VPN suspension has not been given a new date.
A two-week “grace period” was then declared by the Ministry of Interior to allow the unregistered VPNs to comply with necessary registration requirements, after the Ministry had previously stated that it would start the process of shutting down all unregistered VPNs by the middle of November.
The PTA decided against making an official statement on the VPN problem as the deadline was approaching last night; however, its Chairman Maj Gen (Retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman.
