According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the nation’s current internet outages should be fixed by the end of October.
In an address to media, PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rahman reiterated that the organization had no plans to further impede internet services.
Rahman reported that social media sites have a 93% compliance rate, with the exception of X (previously Twitter), which presently only has a 27% compliance rate.
He made it clear that the federal government makes decisions about whether to close X, and that the service will be restarted at the government’s request.
In 2023, there were 116 internet shutdowns in India, compared to just seven in Pakistan, according to the chairman’s comparison of shutdown frequency.
