The SMW4 underwater cable problem has been successfully repaired, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reports that internet services have been restored nationwide.
According to The News, the PTA said that internet services had been restored following a four-month-long outage caused by flaws in two undersea cables, the SMW4 (in June) and the AAE1 (in August).
The gap of 1750 gbps was eliminated by the restoration. This comes after the Pace cable was added in 2023, increasing capacity.
Three additional cables from Transworld International (2) and PTCL (1) are scheduled to join the system within the next two years as part of the planned expansions.
