Users whose Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) have not been renewed will have their mobile SIMs suspended, according to a statement released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Monday.
The declaration from the authority coincides with the start of its second phase of operations to prevent SIM usage that is not authorized anywhere in Pakistan.
In a statement released today, PTA stated that “those whose ID cards have expired before 2017 and have not been renewed, their SIMs will be suspended.”
In order to prevent having their SIMs disabled, the authorities have asked customers to renew their identity cards.
It should be mentioned that in the initial stages of the operation, PTA canceled citizen CNICs and blacklisted phony SIM cards.
The statement said, “More than 69,000 illegal SIMs have been blocked since August 16.”
