The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called the trials of “civilians in the military courts a blatant violation of justice” and declared that it will contest the convictions of its employees and sympathizers in military courts.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated on Thursday that “a judicial commission should be constituted to investigate the May 9 events and November 26 crackdown on PTI protesters.”
The comments were made soon after the military court sentenced another 60 “culprits” to prison terms for their roles in the May 9 disturbances, bringing the total number of convicted individuals to 85.
Following the pronouncement of the May 9 penalties in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Field General Court Martial has, after reviewing all available evidence, imposed the penalties on the remaining 60 offenders:
