The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said Saturday that the military tribunals’ sentence of those participating in the May 9 riots was “illegal and unconstitutional,” but the opposition party also stated that it was open to negotiations with the government.
“The rulings of the military court are unconstitutional. But even with the rulings, we are prepared to negotiate,” PTI leader Salman Akram Raja stated at a press conference with Latif Khosa by his side.
The news conference takes place just hours after 25 participants in the May 9, 2023, attacks on governmental installations were given sentences ranging from two to ten years by military courts.
According to the military’s media wing, “25 accused have been given punishments by the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) in [the] first phase.”
