PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said that the former ruling party took a back seat “because they know they can no longer be Faizyab”—a tacit reference to the alleged support of detained former spy chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid to the previous Imran Khan-led regime. The Senate has been a battleground between the opposition and the Treasury benches over the late-night crackdown on PTI supporters during their “do or die” protest in Islamabad.
The senator stated, “You [PTI] have launched an attack against the state… you will get freedom once you accept the responsibility,” during Thursday’s session of the upper house of parliament.
Rehman requested an apology from the Imran Khan-founded party for the violence that occurred on November 26.
