In a carefully worded speech, Major General (retd) Hafeez-Ur-Rehman, the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), finally addressed the ongoing controversy over the installation of a firewall system.
He clarified during a contentious meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Information Technology, saying, “It is not some new firewall system, but rather an upgraded version of the web management system introduced during the PTI government.”
There were heated exchanges as the committee members tried to get clarification on the system’s definition and intended use.
He went on to reassure the members that this is not a brand-new firewall being introduced, but rather the exact web management system that was authorized in 2019 under the PTI.
