PESHAWAR: Omar Ayub, a legislator with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has loudly denounced the government’s planned “mini-budget” and claimed it will exacerbate the nation’s economic problems.
“This government cannot meet the IMF (International Monetary Fund) targets,” Ayub, the National Assembly’s opposition leader, told Peshawar’s media on Thursday.
According to sources cited by The News on Thursday, an urgent IMF mission is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad next week with the goal of pressuring Pakistani authorities to present a mini-budget for “course correction” following significant “deviations” on performance benchmarks.
The sources said that the Fund’s sudden visit was prompted mainly by the Pakistani authorities’ inability to persuade it of their determination to make a “course correction” during virtual discussions in recent days.
