In order to avoid being involved in the process of selecting the next top judge, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared that it will not attend today’s meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee, which was established to choose the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
Just hours after the National Assembly Secretariat announced that a 12-member Special Parliamentary Committee had been established to select the nation’s next top judge in accordance with the recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment, the decision was made at a pivotal meeting of the former ruling party’s political committee.
Members who voted in favor of the change would be subject to disciplinary action, including the termination of their basic party membership, according to a statement released by the Imran Khan-led party.
