Two distinct petitions have challenged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party elections before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Petitioners Mahmood Khan and Muhammad Muzamil have filed separate applications requesting that the election commission declare the PTI’s intra-party elections null and illegitimate.
In their applications, Mahmood Khan and Muhammad Muzamil underlined the need of nullifying the PTI’s intra-party elections, expressing concerns about the electoral process’s validity and impartiality.
They have asked the commission to intervene and take appropriate action to resolve the alleged anomalies and errors that occurred during the elections.
Furthermore, the petitioners have urged that the respondents stop using the PTI’s platform until the problem is settled and the electoral process is judged transparent.
The Election Commission is anticipated to consider the petitions and investigate the charges made by Mahmood Khan and Muhammad Muzamil about the PTI’s intra-party elections. The findings of this study will determine the future course of action regarding the legitimacy of the PTI’s electoral process.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was re-elected unopposed as PTI chairman on February 29 in intra-party elections.
Meanwhile, Omar Ayub was unchallenged for the role of central secretary general, while Dr Yasmin Rashid was elected as Punjab’s president without opposition. The intra-party polls were due for March 3, but because no further applications were received before the deadline, Khan, Ayub, and Rashid were declared unopposed.
