Waleed Iqbal, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that his party’s march into Islamabad may degenerate into a sit-in, but he has also insisted that it will be peaceful.
“A sit-in, or dharna, could result from the Islamabad march. But we will demonstrate peacefully and without weapons,” the party head stated on News’ “Pakistan” show.
The PTI has been threatened with harsh punishment by the federal government if its members turn violent on November 24, the protest day, after the police claimed that they had weapons during past demonstrations.
Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah cautioned the party that its “do-or-die” protest might lead to a crackdown on the PTI, while Shazia Marri of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), whose party is a part of the PTI, issued the warning.
