ISLAMABAD: PTI leaders Shibli Faraz and Barrister Saif asked party leaders to wait to make decisions until details of the recently announced military operation were released during a high-level meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
News was informed by sources that the National Action Plan Apex Committee meeting and the meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, were the subjects of a briefing at the KP House in Islamabad.
As the representative of his province at the Apex Committee meeting, Gandapur informed the group that the topics of discussion were limited to Pakistani security and stability.
He gave a 35-minute briefing to the group, during which he outlined the reasons he believed that the details of the Azm-e-Istehkam operation should be delayed.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif authorized operation Azm-e-Istehkam last Saturday during an Apex Committee meeting. This is a national counterterrorism initiative that aims to intensify pressure on extremists who target Pakistan.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), all parties involved, including the provinces, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), have agreed to approve the new counterterrorism campaign.
“The approval of the operation symbolises the national resolve to eradicate all forms of extremism and terrorism from the country,” according to the PMO.
