After both leaders left the protest in the middle, discouraged members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) turned to shattering the windows of the cars of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, the wife of the PTI founder.
Social media users can be seen in videos hurling stones and hitting the cars with sticks out of annoyance.
According to reports, the demonstrators were promised that the sit-in would go on until the PTI founder was freed. But after a government crackdown, the demonstration came to a sudden conclusion, leaving the workers feeling abandoned as important leaders left the scene.
Nearly 1,000 followers of the former ruling party were arrested by police as a result of their “do or die” rally calling for Khan’s release.
Salman Akram Raja, the secretary-general of the PTI, has stated that at least 20 people died.
