The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, or PTI, has threatened to file charges against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other top government officials for the deaths of party members during a protest in Islamabad that was abruptly called off following a late-night crackdown, amid growing tensions between the former ruling party and the current administration.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram stated, “The government has been trying to conceal the facts and whoever is coming forward to expose them is being arrested.”
“Protesters’ deaths” would be the subject of formal complaints against PM Shehbaz, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, he added.
This comes after law enforcement detained about 1,000 PTI employees, according to the party’s claims.
