The Pakistan Supreme Court has upheld its January 13 order on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intra-party elections by dismissing a review appeal.
The petition was considered by a three-judge special bench that was led by the Chief Justice and included Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Munib Akhtar. A larger bench to review the case had been asked by the PTI.
Hamid Khan, the PTI’s attorney, contended that the case ought to be sent to the Judges Committee in order to create a larger bench, pointing to a prior 13-judge bench ruling in the Sunni Ittehad Council case as evidence that the current three-judge panel was unfit to hear the issue.
