To commemorate the Urs (death anniversary) of the famed Sufi saint Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Karachi will enjoy a public holiday tomorrow, Saturday.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has declared that all of its offices, with the exception of those that offer vital services, will be closed on this particular day, according to the city’s mayor, Murtaza Wahab.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s council passed a motion deciding to proclaim the day a public holiday.
Known for his spiritual teachings and blessings, Abdullah Shah Ghazi is a highly revered person in Karachi’s Sufi community. For followers who come to his shrine to honor him and ask for favors, His Urs is a momentous occasion.
The purpose of the holiday is to respect the saint’s spiritual legacy and encourage public participation in the observance.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged citizens to observe the Urs with reverence and respect, stressing the value of cultural and religious celebrations in Karachi’s varied society.
