Since June 15, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) has gone on strike at all Punjabi government hospitals protesting the detention of certain doctors under the guise of a fire at a Sahiwal teaching hospital.
Dr. Shoaib Niazi, president of the Young Doctors Association, announced that the group is calling off their continuing strike for one day. He said, “We will present our position today in front of the LHC.”
The Lahore High Court’s Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan heard a plea from the Young Doctors Association on Thursday asking for an investigation into the Sahiwal tragedy.
Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan voiced his concerns during the hearing, saying that physicians belong in hospitals, not courts, after observing the doctors in the room.
