The province of Punjab has experienced a notable rise in court fees and stamp charges. The fees for many court-related activities have increased dramatically by 500% to 1000% under the Punjab Finance Act 2024.
The costs of filing a memorandum of appeal, claim, or supervision have increased from Rs. 15 to Rs. 500; civil and criminal lawyers, who previously paid Rs. 2 per ticket, now have to pay Rs. 100; tickets that once cost between Rs. 5 and Rs. 15 have been raised to Rs. 500. The fees for including court tickets for civil and criminal petitions have increased from Rs. 2 to Rs. 500. The fees for transferring cases have increased from Rs. 5 to Rs. 500.
Tickets for cases where the claimant’s amount is uncertain have become more expensive.Likewise, the cost of tickets for requests about the assessment of rent or eviction has increased from Rs 2 to Rs 15 to a new figure of Rs 500. Additionally, the cost of affidavit stamp papers has gone up from Rs100 to Rs 300.
