In response to the extreme heat, the Punjab government on Friday shortened the hours of operation for all public and private schools inside the region.
Following a sharp increase in temperature, the Punjab education department announced new schedules for the schools with shortened hours as the nation braces for a heatwave.
The notification states that the schools will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Additionally, the government declared that both public and private schools would have summer breaks every year. It said that all of the province’s schools will observe the vacations from June 1 to August 14.
Heatwave conditions were predicted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department for majority of the nation, particularly for Punjab and Sindh.
It also said that from May 23 to May 27, there will probably be a strong heatwave.
In Punjab, daytime highs are expected to stay 4–6°C above average from May 21–23 and 6–8°C above average from May 23–27.
