The Punjab Transport Department has revealed a significant plan to turn outdated motorcycles into electric vehicles in an effort to lower air pollution in Lahore.
Ahmed Javed Qazi, the transport secretary, affirmed that the government will cover half of motorcycle owners’ conversion expenses. By substituting battery-powered equipment for conventional gasoline engines, the conversion process will drastically cut emissions and help create cleaner air.
According to him, a successful trial involving the conversion of obsolete gasoline-powered motorcycles into electric versions has already been carried out. After testing, which is presently being conducted by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), the project will formally start. According to him, all gasoline-powered motorcycles will run on batteries from October through January.
