But does that really matter now that the Democratic convention is underway?
The editorial board of the Washington Post, which leans liberal, offered perhaps the most scathing critique when it said that the candidate “squandered the moment on populist gimmicks, instead of delivering a substantial plan.”
That could very well be the case. Still, is it really that important?
Time cover girl Kamala Harris: Was her opposition to Trump fueled by an unending media honeymoon?
Voters consider policies while evaluating the candidates’ potential four-year terms in office. It’s particularly important since, after a three-month campaign, Harris unexpectedly emerged as the replacement nomine.
Despite the ideological differences between the two nominees, I think policy won’t be that important in 2024.
By the way, I think the Harris plans are being mischaracterized as wage and price regulations, even though I agree that going after price gougers won’t work because supermarkets already operate on extremely low margins. That was exactly what I saw Richard Nixon do in the early 1970s, and it was a horrible disaster. Despite the fact that I can understand why the Trump campaign finds Harris’ argument to be useful, Harris is not advocating for the government to set pricing for all goods.
