According to royal scholar Robert Hardman, King Charles never desired for his mother, Queen Elizabeth, to abdicate so that he might take the kingdom for himself.
Hardman rejected the plot of the popular historical drama Crown on Netflix, claiming it was “not the case at all” and that Charles was desperate to obtain the throne.
The author of The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, in an interview with GB News, stated that Charles had no desire to ascend to the throne.
“If you watch The Crown, you’ll see a plot line where he’s desperate to inherit the throne and keeps pleading with prime ministers to give him a chance to do so,” he remarked.
