LAHORE: Travis Head’s spectacular half-century put the Kangaroos in a dominant position at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday, but rain cut short the match between Australia and Afghanistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Australia got off to a fast start chasing Afghanistan’s 273-run mark, with Head hitting a scorching fifty to give his team early impetus.
But Azmatullah Omarzai ended the opening partnership by dismissing Matthew Short, who used three boundaries and one six to hit 20 from 15 balls.
Due to intense rain, play was stopped with Australia at 109/1 at 12.5 overs, and both teams had to wait for the weather to clear.
Earlier, despite a valiant comeback from the Australian bowlers, Omarzai’s brilliant effort helped Afghanistan reach a respectable total of 273 runs.
