RAWALPINDI: On Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted post-arrest release to Omar Ayub and Raja Basharat, the leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in a vandalism case.
A day earlier, Rawalpindi Police had detained Ayub, the National Assembly’s opposition leader, Basharat, and three other PTI leaders outside of Adiala Jail.
Saddar Superintendent of Police Nabeel Ahmed Khokhar was given an order by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah to bring the five suspects to court by 7:30 p.m. the previous day.
However, the police were unable to deliver them; therefore, the judge instructed the law enforcement agency to submit them by 9 a.m. today and issued a contempt notice to the SP for missing the deadline.
Ahmad Nasir Chattha, Basharat, and Ayub are charged in cases filed with the Injra Police.
