Joe Salisbury of Britain and his American partner Rajeev Ram advanced to the second round of the French Open men’s doubles competition with a straight-set victory.
In a 6-3 6-4 triumph, the duo easily defeated Adam Pavlasek of the Czech Republic and Ariel Behar of Uruguay.
Salisbury and Ram have teamed up to win four Grand Slam doubles titles, including the US Open in 2023, but they have never advanced past the French Open quarterfinals.
They will play Gonzalo Escobar and Aleksandr Nedovyesov or the Spanish team of Pablo Carreno-Busta and Sergio Martos Gornes next.
In the women’s doubles, British players Maia Lumsden and Yafan Wang also advanced after defeating Lin Zhu and Fang-Hsien Wu 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round.
Later on Friday, when Andy Murray and Dan Evans team up at a major for the first time, there will be increased interest in the doubles from the British.
The fourth and final match on court 13 is scheduled to feature wildcards Murray and Evans, who both lost their first-round singles matches at Roland Garros, up against Argentine Sebastian Baez and Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild.
Hao-Ching Chan and Veronika Kudermetova take on British pair Katie Boulter and Heather Watson in the women’s doubles.
