Rassie van der Dussen’s heroics are in vain as Qalandars suffer another defeat

Saim Ayub’s blistering 55-ball 88 and skipper Babar Azam’s cautious 36-ball 48 propelled Peshawar Zalmi to victory against Lahore Qalandars in the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ninth edition on Sunday.

LAHORE QALANDAR INNINGS
Chasing an overwhelming 212-run total would never be simple for the Qalandars, given their past four outings.

Sahibzada Farhan, who was in fantastic form and sparked the Qalandars’ innings against the Kings, was unable to repeat his feat.

He scored 12-ball 15, including three boundaries, before being dismissed by Naveenul Haq.

Fakhar Zaman (4 off eight deliveries) once again struggled with the bat and was stumped by Luke Wood

After an early setback, the only player for the Qalandars who demonstrated steadfast dedication with the bat was South African Rassie van der Dussen, who scored an undefeated 52-ball 104, including seven boundaries and six maximums.

But he still needed help from the other end. Only Shai Hope (29 off 23) and Ahsan Hafeez (20 off 13) offered some resistance with the bat. Salman Irshad confused Hope, and Naveenul Haq removed Ahsan Hafeez.

Jahandad Khan was preferred over Sikandar Raza Butt and Carlos Brathwaite (6 out of 2).

However, Jahandad could only score 9-ball 13, smashing three boundaries before being dismissed by Walter.

Sikandar Raza failed to launch a powerful shot and was ran out by Saim Ayub and Haseebullah Khan on run-a-ball 1.

Carlos Braithwaite, who was not being promoted by the Qalandars, faced two deliveries and clobbered a six in the last ball to complete the game.

For the Zalmi, Naveenul Haq (2-50) bagged two wickets, but went for 50 runs in his four overs.

Luke Wood (1-46), Paul Walter (1-41) and Salman Irshad (1-39) grabbed a wicket apiece.
