Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has stated that the UK government will not dictate the stance that Scottish Labour should adopt on important welfare issues.
Regarding the two-child benefits cap, the winter fuel payment, and recompense for Waspi women, Anas Sarwar’s party north of the border has departed from Sir Keir Starmer’s administration.
During a tour of a shipyard in Glasgow, Rayner told Scotland News that devolution gave Scottish Labour the freedom to adopt diverse stances on policy.
She emphasized that the party’s two factions shared the goal of eradicating poverty.
“Listening ear”
The deputy prime minister claimed that there was a “reason” why her party had backed devolution. The Westminster party could not prescribe “to Scottish Labour what they do,” she insisted.
