Following the discovery that Black moms were more likely to be reported for child abuse and neglect in the event that a toxicology testing returned positive, a Boston, Massachusetts, hospital said on Tuesday that it would be reviewing the procedure to prevent “structural racism.”
According to Mass General Brigham, a nonprofit health care system, “Black pregnant people are more likely than white pregnant people to be drug tested and to be reported to child welfare systems.”
“As a part of our United Against Racism effort to achieve health equity for patients and communities across our system, we… are addressing policies that may unwittingly perpetuate structural racism,” said Mass General.
