Republican Speaker Johnson continues to advocate for help for Ukraine.

But even the best-laid plans might fall apart quickly for Mr. Johnson, with Democrats on the defensive and the Republican right flank considering a full-scale insurrection.

The congressman from Louisiana said to News that he will urge the House, which has the slimmest of Republican majorities, to set up fresh loan support for Ukraine.

He recommended giving the US government permission to confiscate and sell Russian assets that have been blocked since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in order to help pay for the expenditures.

“That’s just pure gold if we can use the oligarchs’ confiscated assets to give the Ukrainians the ability to fight the Russians.”
