The UK Space Agency funded the project, which is thought to be the first to look at how tourist numbers affect the lake’s ecology in Cumbria.
Elevated temperatures and high nitrogen levels, which may originate from sewage, are the primary causes of algal blooms.
They have the power to poison the water or deprive wildlife of air.
The study’s organizer, the Save Windermere campaign organization, claimed that there was a “direct correlation” between algae blooms and visitor numbers.
“Action is imperative, as there is a clear link between human activity and algal growth,” stated Save Windermere founder Matt Staniek.
