A few weeks ago, Waymo’s driverless vehicles pulled into a parking lot in San Francisco, California, where they waited in between duties.
Living next to the parking lot, Christopher Cherry told News Bay Area that when they moved in, he was “really excited” to have Waymo in the neighborhood since he believed it would increase security and quietness.
Rather, the cabs were constantly beeping with each other whether they were parked or traveling, which made it difficult to get any rest.
An angry resident began livestreaming the parking lot on YouTube, garnering tens of thousands of views.
In one of her films, Sophia Tung is heard saying, “Help,” as late-night automobile blaring is audible.According to Mr. Cherry, there are various degrees of honking every day, with the loudest honking happening around rush hour in the evening and at around 4 a.m.
“It’s very distracting during the work day, but most importantly it wakes you up at four in the morning,” he stated.
Around 4 a.m., the cars seem to leave for their charging station; this “parade” of self-driving taxis generated a lot of excitement throughout the YouTube webcast.
On Wednesday morning, hundreds of spectators eagerly awaited the cars to begin pulling away.
