ISLAMABAD The federal government has directed that sugar be sold in the nation at Rs130 per kg in an effort to alleviate the burden during the holy month of Ramadan.
Chief secretaries in every province were instructed by Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain to set up sugar kiosks at the local council level and guarantee a steady supply of the commodity at the price specified by the government.
According to a news statement released on Friday, the minister made the comments while presiding over an Islamabad Sugar Advisory Board meeting.
Tanveer emphasized the need for provincial governments and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) to make sure that sugar is affordable for everyone.
In Sindh, over 230 sugar stalls would be established with the province government’s assistance.
