CHRISTCHURCH: In the opening Twenty20 International in Christchurch, New Zealand easily defeated the Green Shirts by nine wickets on Sunday.
The tourists began the five-match series in disastrous fashion, reduced to 11-4 at the end of the fifth over after towering paceman Kyle Jamieson ran amok with the new ball.
Their lowest score in a Twenty20 match played in New Zealand ultimately led to their dismissal, and the home team easily responded with 92-1 off just 10.1 overs.
Jamieson finished with 3-8 off four overs after taking three of the first four wickets.
Later in the innings, Jacob Duffy, Jamieson’s new ball partner, came back to sweep away the tail and record career-best T20 figures of 4-14 from 3.4 overs.
