In the 1980s, Rick Astley talked candidly about his early misgivings about Kylie Minogue, his former label partner at Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW).
His early doubts regarding Minogue’s musical career were openly expressed in a recent appearance on the Life Of Greatness podcast.
Astley acknowledged that he first wrote off Kylie, who is now a worldwide pop sensation, as just a soap opera diva attempting to sing, according to the Daily Mail.
He clarified, mentioning Minogue’s character as Charlene Robinson on Neighbors, “The guys who signed me wanted to work with an actress soap star.”
Minogue’s on-screen persona was more well-known at the time than her vocal prowess.
Additionally, Astley remembered doubting SAW’s choice to collaborate with her.
