Rory McIlroy and his wife, Erica Stoll, filed for divorce last week following seven years of marriage.
The reasons for the divorce were not immediately revealed, but according to a report, it appears to have been fermenting for some time.
According to Us Weekly, Stoll was “lonely” in their marriage, and the four-time major champion was “a hard person to be married to” because of his playing profession.
The two “were living very different lives the last two years with him being on the road, and eventually she had a breaking point,” according to the site.
“She understood what she was getting into with his work, but after they had (their daughter) Poppy, things changed dramatically, and she gained a new perspective. Erica was typically absent.
