Moscow thinks the most recent phone call between Presidents Putin and Trump went well, at least for the Kremlin, based on some of the headlines from Russia today.
“Putin and Trump agreed to work together on Ukraine resolution,” Izvestia says.
“Record-long Putin-Trump call,” Komsomolskaya Pravda remarks. Additionally, according to the paper’s website, “As things stand Russia has scored a diplomatic victory here.”
What has caused some Russians to declare “victory” following this two-hour phone conversation?
Most likely because Vladimir Putin had not been forced to make any significant compromises to the United States or Ukraine by the conclusion of it. Instead, he had effectively dismissed President Trump’s proposal for an unconditional 30-day truce.
